Complete Catacombs Guide – Everything you need to know

Today we’re gonna be talking about the new catacombs and i’ll be showing you how to get in there, how they work and what kind of gear you can expect from them.

How to get there?

First thing you need to know is how to even get there, and there are 2 ways of doing it, one is probably not something you wanna do, the other one is gonna be your main way of doing it. so you can either come over here to the south west part of Nighthaven and enter the catacombs directly. or you can just open your activities tab in the menu and select it from there. you can either group up with some friends and then queue up for it or queue up for it solo and you will be matched with 2 other random people.

First Steps

once you’re in the dungeon, the first thing you want to do is run over to this chest and grab your erosion tonics, these are gonna gonna be needed to reduce the erosion meter that slowly builds up when you’re in the catacombs. basically the same as the corruption meter. you don’t have to worry about the timer starting as long as you’re still in the first room, the timer starts once you leave it. when you kill mobs, you will get splintered souls, this is a currency you can exchange at these statues. you should always spend all souls that you have, because these statues will give you a stacking buff that increases your damage and your health and i think they stack up to 18 times.

Things to pay attention to

every once in a while you will come across these power-up statues, they provide a variety of effects from shields, to heals, to more damage and i recommend taking the time to read the available buffs you can get from them, and pick one that fits your build or benefits the group the most. keep an eye out for tonic chests, since running out of tonics makes the catacombs a lot harder than they need to be. also keep an eye out for sterling caches, these will provide varying amounts of sterling, which is one of the 2 main currencies you get to keep when you extract and they can be used to buy gear at the catacombs vendor. you will also get sterling from killing bosses and the really big bosses also drop crowns which are the premium currency for the catacombs and will get you set pieces and skins at the catacombs vendor. and there are also hidden switches that open passages that contain more sterling for you to collect. btw. sterling are shared with the group, no matter who picks them up, the whole group will receive them.

How to get out

make sure to keep an eye on the timer and keep in mind where the extraction portals are, because you will have to get out of the catacombs before the timer runs out, so make sure you don’t push to far. at 5 minutes left, you should really think about extracting, especially when you have no portal near you. the way over to the portal can take a couple of minutes, so make sure you get there in time. once someone has started the extraction portal, the catacombs timer will stop but you will have to survive waves of enemies for 1 minute until the portal opens, at this point you can extract. for that you simply walk into the blue beam and this will end the run for you. only 1 person needs to extract for the whole group to get to keep the currencies. but you get 20% extra when the whole group makes it out in time. after that you can come over here to Nighhaven to Tularest abbey and talk to the catacombs vendor. here you will find lootboxes for all armor and weapon pieces, as well as boxes for the overcharged set and the elementally charged set. and you will also be able to spend your crowns on skins here.
